Our Moral Duty In Iraq

This article is based around the topic of the Iraqi war and it's morality. The author states that we have several obligations to the Iraqi people which is the main reason we still have troops stationed there. I agree with the efforts of Tim Ryan, Rosa DeLauro, Marcy Kaptur, and their colleagues. The war that we are fighting is immoral and we need to bring an end to it. According to the author, "Today's challenge in Iraq is to ensure that an unjust war does not lead to an unjust peace". I strongly agree with this statement because if the reason to begin wasn't just then why would the outcome be? The only positive to the Iraqi War is the effort of the United States' effort to combat terrorist groups. We have already seen the damages terrorists can cause after 9/11 and it would be even more devastating if we had a reoccurance. According to the text, thee best antiwar arguement is the two immoral failures in Iraq. They include, "it was immoral to intervene; in the ensuing nationbuilding process, the United States has failed the Iraqi people by willing an end (a peaceful and prosperous Iraq) without willing the means to achieve it". I think that we have failed the Iraqi people because they have not receieved the desired ending. Overall, I believe that the war in Iraq could have been avoidable but now it has turned into something larger than itself.

  1. I agree with your last statement, but am also glad that you saw the major point of this article, which is whether our moral duty to help secure Iraqi peace outweights our own country's saftey. I personally do not agree with the idea of war, but can understand how sometimes it is necessary and think that it would be great if we were the ones to intiate this internationa cooperation among countries, possibly effectively ending war altogether.

  2. I also do not agree with warfare. I feel that its time we resort to more peaceful ways of solving our problems. I also agree that the war we are in now could of been avoided. I see that many people who are for the war in Iraq, possibly could of seen it as a way to help en war over there. I agree with that fact that we should try to aid countries that have been hurt for so long by violence, but we should of tried to do it in a way other than adding to the violence.
